NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE

I happened to spot this car three weeks ago while stuck in traffic at the Museum hill round about. I’m not quite sure whether it was the chrome, those big bold tail lights or the dual exhausts that caught my eye but there was something about it that I just liked. What shocked me more was that this was a 2011 model and was already on our soil. Maybe it’s just me who hasn’t been paying attention to the recent brand launches but seeing this car on our roads really made me happy. It then happened that last weekend I came across two more though one was boasting South Sudan registration plates.

I’ve never really been big on Jeeps and their styling especially the Grand Cherokee family but this car’s exterior is really something. In my opinion Jeep finally has something that looks modern.
Looking at this car from the back, the first thing that came to mind was the new BMW X5. The Cherokee’s shape from the rear really resembles that of the new X5 but compared to the previous Cherokee line up, the 2011 model has really upped its game. This car however is pretty much a Benz ML on the underside since it shares most of its underpinnings from it.

Two models of the 2011 Grand Cherokee are out with one targeting the American market. Engine line ups on this model include a 3.6Litre V6 engine which delivers 280Bhp (209Kw) to the rear wheels and a 5.7litre HEMI V8 delivering 360Bhp (268Kw) to the rear (the bad boy). The second model targets the UK market and engine line ups on this model include a 3.6Litre V6 turbo diesel delivering 237Bhp. You can guess which of the two you’ll be seeing on our roads but again, Kenyans are never short of surprises and the 5.7Litre Hemi might just grace our roads.
Be on the lookout for this ride.
