NAROK BIKE RIDE 2011

This weekend, Outriders Association of Kenya in conjunction with the Kenya Bikers club bring you, The Narok Bike Ride 2011.

This is an annual initiative by Outriders Association of Kenya intended to raise awareness and funding for orphans and vulnerable children in Narok County through Olmarei Lang, a local CBO.

The first ride took place in July 2010 and succeeded in raising assistance for the Kurraru family of 6 orphans based at Duka Moja near Suswa. The 34 bikers who participated in the ride donated foodstuffs to last the family 3 months and a large quantity of children’s clothing. The donations were channelled through the Children’s Office and the area Chief.

In addition to assisting needy children the event also aims to promote safe riding practices especially in the boda boda industry. This is done through interaction by the bikers and the boda boda riders. The team works closely with the Police in this regard.

The money raised from the last ride facilitated payment of fees for 2 orphans enabling them to enroll in boarding school, purchase of a water tank for the homestead and commencement of construction of a permanent shelter for the family. We are also informed by the area Chief that resulting from this initiative many more orphans have been referred to him for assistance.

This year the Narok Bike Ride is scheduled for Sunday 31st July. They intend to raise at least the sum of Kshs. 500,000/- to enrol the remaining 4 orphans in boarding school, and to complete construction of the shelter. They also intend to expand the program so as to support needy children from other families in the area. The Narok North District Commissioner has once again very kindly accepted to be the guest of honour for the day.

The Outrider’s team plan to print in advance branded T-shirts promoting the event which they shall sell to participants and other well wishers at KSh.1, 000/- each as one of the avenues of raising funds for this worthy cause.

Lets all come out and support these guys and this worthy cause. By simply purchasing the t-shirt you would have gone a long way in changing someones life. All are welcome, bikers and non-bikers alike. Flag off will be at Oil Libya, Waiyaki Way (next to ABC shopping centre).
